‘Winner’s Circle’

‘Winners Circle’ takes a view into the winners of the St Mary’s Trophy, putting the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA driven by Frank Stippler in main focus.

While not winning, the GTA stood out for it’s bare-bone paint job, making you feel as if the car has just left construction yet to be painted. In doing so, the metallic paint can be seen gorgeously reflecting the sunlight, highlight the shadows further while punctuating its bronze wheel covers.

Being one the more popular cars in the St Mary’s Trophy, the 1965 rendition of this car saw a number of changes when developed by the Alfa’s racing division.

The outer body were made from aluminium rather than steel along with the wheels being a magnesium alloy. On top of this, the interior trim became lighter and the side windows made to be plastic.

in doing these simple modifications, the car had a dry weight of under 1,650 pounds, giving 113hp and 1,570 cc from the engine hitting top speeds of 115mph.

In understanding this, the paint really makes you feel that you can see these changes and therefore see the car for what makes this version so unique from the others.

‘Wreath and All’

‘Wreath and All’ takes the focus away from the car, putting it on the driver. Here he can be seen wearing his wreath while looking on at the car carrying a wide grin on his face.

In doing so, ‘Wreath and All’ has a much more human connection than ‘Winner’s circle’, looking at the other side of the coin of what is needed to be on the podium in any racing car, the driver.

The driver pictured here is Frank Stippler, a German driver who has seen success in series such as the Porsche Supercup, Swedish Touring Car championship and the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, among several other series.
